I've found myself pouring more time than I'd like into stuff that doesn't have any substance when it's done. Sure, it's satisfying to take over the galaxy in Stellaris, but after I'm done (or I lose a war and patience) it's like all that time's gone.

At the same time, I recently completed a review request for an academic journal and realized how much I missed reading and writing critically.

Finally, I'm interested in this protocol and what it can do, and figure this is as good a way to get my feet wet as anything else.

So here we are!

My goal, here, is to read a year's worth of Hugo Award nominees - starting with novellas, though I may make my way to novels - and provide brief reviews. I'll rank them as well as I can, and I'll say a bit about what's good and bad about them. I suppose I could just do this on GoodReads or something, but this is a more appealing venue, I think.

I'll probably go in reverse chronological order, but I may jump around. We'll see. The good news is: I have no readers to disappoint and am unlikely to have any in the near future. Let's see what my voice is like when I'm writing for fun.

Thanks for reading,

k
